The Department of Lands collaborated with the FAO to train the Wajir County Land Tribunal Committee for three days.

In a collaborative initiative between the Department of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, a three-day training session was conducted for the Wajir County Land Tribunal Committee. The main objective was to address prevailing land disputes by introducing Alternative Justice System (AJS) and Alternative Dispute Resolution Mechanisms (ADR), alongside integrating the MASLAH System to foster community cohesion.
The training encompassed a wide array of topics including the Somali Justice System, Ethics and Integrity, Kenyan Constitution’s Chapter on Land and Environment, Land Laws in Kenya, Islamic Perspective on Land Ownership and Dispute Management, and Human Rights-based Approaches. Notable trainers hailed from The Judiciary, Kenya National Commission of Human Rights (KNCHR), National Land Commission, National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), and local authorities.
Following the training, the Committee undertook an oath of office to inaugurate their tenure. Thanks to our development partners, particularly the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the European Union, alongside other facilitating organizations like The Judicial Service Commission and KNCHR.
Key figures in attendance included Husna A. Mubarak, Programme Manager of the Digital Land Governance Programme (DLGP), Commissioner Ali Mohamed of KNCHR, Senior Principal Magistrate from Wajir Law Courts, and various county officials.
The session culminated with the Resident Magistrate administering the oath of office and oath of secrecy for the tribunal committee members, thereby officially concluding the three-day event.
