A special session of the County Steering Group (CSG) was convened today at the Grand Oasis Hotel to address the escalating drought crisis affecting the region. The meeting was co-chaired by Wajir East DCC, Mr. George Onyango, and the County Executive Committee Member (CEC) for Water, Mr. Mohamud, with key stakeholders also in attendance, including the National Drought Management Authority (NDMA) CEO, Mr. Hared Adan.
Discussions highlighted that the water sector has been the most severely impacted by the ongoing drought, with significant consequences for both residents and livestock. In response, participants expressed their commitment to working together across sectors to combat the crisis effectively.
As a key outcome of the meeting, a technical committee for drought response and monitoring was established, reinforcing the group’s collective resolve to address the drought’s effects and protect the County’s most vulnerable populations. The initiative marks a unified approach to tackling the growing crisis and ensuring that resources are mobilized to areas most in need.
