Wajir Municipality is the major commercial hub serving the local area within Wajir County. It is located in the Central Division of Wajir East District. It is the county headquarter and serves as both administrative and civic centre.
It has a good road network to other major towns in the County though in poor condition. The Municipality is centrally located and radially connected to the major towns such as Habaswein, Griftu, Eldas, Tarbaj, Bute, Buna, Hadado, Diff, and Wajir Bor. It is therefore important to promote trade and investment, capacity development, provision of infrastructure and services in the entire county.
Wajir Municipality is strategically located in Kenya with linkages to Ethiopia and Somalia thus act as commercial hub a major a gateway to Kenya and beyond. This places the municipality in an opportune position as a commerce centre with great potential. Wajir municipality pride itself with the presence of an International Airport that gives the municipality a national and global advantage linking it to various cities such as Nairobi, Mogadishu and Ethiopia among others.
The upgrading of Wajir-Isiolo road to bitumen standard will enormously improve the transportation networks within and beyond Wajir municipality, this will enhance linkage with the LAPSSET Corridor that seeks to integrate road and railway transport system in the Country to provide connectivity to areas such as Lamu, Isiolo, Ethiopia and Southern Sudan.
The Location of Wajir municipality is currently served by daily flights from Nairobi making it a major commercial hub and transportation corridor.
