Governor Abdullahi Welcomes BOMA-led Initiative to Combat Extreme Poverty in Wajir County.

Wajir News 17th July 2024:

In a significant move to combat extreme poverty and foster sustainable development, Wajir County Governor H.E. Ahmed Abdullahi welcomed a delegation led by Dr. Sam Owilly, CEO of BOMA, which will spearhead an Economic Inclusion Program targeting Hunger Safety Net Program (HSNP) beneficiaries across 10 wards in the county.

The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with national and county governments, aims to integrate BOMA’s efforts within the National Economic Inclusion Program framework. This approach addresses the challenges of extreme poverty, recurrent droughts, lack of opportunities, diseases, and conflict, thereby laying a solid foundation for resilience and sustainable development in the region.

“We welcome this initiative as it will help us address the extreme poverty which is a result of recurrent droughts and will help us attain sustainable development and resilience-building in the region,” stated Governor Abdullahi.
The project will target over 1,200 households, aiming to establish profitable business enterprises. Continuous mentorship from dedicated Mentors will ensure these businesses remain sustainable, helping beneficiaries graduate from poverty and connect to market opportunities.

Key figures in attendance included County Lead and Portfolio Director of REAP Standard, Nancy Wamwea, Executive Assistant to the CEO, Christina Musili, and Communication Officer Nick.
