Wajir County, 5th June 2024;
In a bid to improve the environment and combat climate change, over 600 trees were planted at Wajir Air Base, Wajir High School, and Shalatey Secondary School.
“This year’s theme, ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience,’ underscores the urgent need to restore our land and build resilience against climate-related challenges,” said Mr. Hussein.
Planting trees not only beautifies our surroundings, but trees also play a vital role in combating climate change and mitigating the effects of droughts. Our collective efforts today will contribute to a greener and more sustainable future for Wajir, he added.
The tree planting initiative reflects the county’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and community engagement.
In attendance were the Deputy County Commissioner, Mr. James, Deputy County Secretary, Mr. Mohamed Abdullahi, County Police Commander, Mr. Hilary Torotich, County Criminal Investigation Officer, Mr. Chabari, Kenya Wildlife Warden, Mr. Sharif, MCA Habaswein, Mr. Ahmed Diis,representatives from Neema, Mr. Abdishakur, Education Director, Koriyo Hussain and the Executive Director of Green Globe Realisation, Mr. Farah Ali.
