World Hypertension Day, an initiative by the World Hypertension League (WHL) to raise awareness about hypertension, was celebrated with a significant event at the Wajir County Referral Hospital. This year’s theme focused on addressing the critical lack of knowledge among hypertensive patients.
The celebration in Wajir saw hundreds of residents benefit from free blood pressure screenings, aimed at promoting early detection and management of hypertension. Medical staff at the hospital emphasized the importance of regular monitoring and education on lifestyle changes to prevent and control high blood pressure.
“Hypertension remains a silent killer, largely due to insufficient awareness,” said Dr. Hassan Abass , Director Medical Services at Wajir County Referral Hospital. “Today’s event is about empowering our community with the knowledge and tools to manage their health effectively.”
The initiative reflects a broader commitment to public health and aligns with global efforts to combat hypertension, a leading risk factor for cardiovascular diseases worldwide.
